Road mishap on NH-6 near Ghulipali, Bargarh

Two students of a private institute died and three others sustained injuries after their car fell off the bridge over a nullah at Ghulipali under Bargarh Town police limits on NH-6 on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Gyana Bikash Naik (19) of Bargarh town who died on the spot and Kalpeswar Das (20) of Banda village under Attabira block in the district.

The injured are Prasanta Meher (20) of Bargarh town, Sailesh Dash (19) of Banda and Ankit Sahu (20) of Paharsirgida village under Attabira block in the district.

The injured were rushed to Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to VSS Medical at Burla after their condition deteriorated.

“Dhanu Yatra” counted as National Festival

The Department of Culture of the Government of India has accorded national festival status to the famous Dhanu Yatra in Bargarh, Odisha.

This was informed by the Bargarh MP Pravas Singh and collector Anjan Manik at a meeting here on Friday.

They said the district administration and the organizing committee have already started preparatory measures two months ahead of the festival.

To make the festival more lively and attractive, a decision has been taken to select the actors to perform in various roles for which a selection committee has been formed under the chairmanship of additional collector Simanchal Mandal.

The committee will have the responsibility to nominate all actors of Mathuranagari.

Besides, well-known Bollywood and Ollywood actors and reputed cultural organizations at the national level would be roped in for the festival this year, they informed.

The meeting decided to bring out a souvenir on the festival in English for the first time. Bargarh MP Pravas Singh would be in charge of its publication.

Like previous years, Rangoli and Sand Art would be on display at the festival.

It was also decided that bus services from Gopapura to Mathuranagari would be provided by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) from this year.

OMFED would put up a stall at Gopapura and take up awareness campaign on production of milk.

Apart from this, the Veterinary department would organise a “Go Sambardhana” programme along with cattle farming during the week-long festival.

Among others, Bargarh MLA Debesh Kumar Acharya, SP Dr Uma Shankar Das, Zilla Parishad vice chairman Soubhagya Ranjan Nayak, senior district officials, office-bearers of Mahotsav Samiti and senior citizens were present at the meeting.

Bargarh Town Police seizes Aluminium wire worth Rs 3 lakh

In a highest achievement in respect of Aluminium wire theft, Bargarh Town Police has recovered stolen property worth Rs. 3 lakh. On September 10, 2014 at around 8 am, on getting reliable information regarding transportation of All Aluminium Conductor in a pickup van bearing No. OR17G-1026 TATA AC from Bhatli side towards Bargarh town via Village Sanya, the Inspector-in-Charge along with Police Station staffs R.P. Sahu, ASI B.D. Seth and others watched the same vehicle at Haldipali Chhakof Bargarh.

Later Police raiding the party stopped the vehicle at the spot. On verification of the pickup van, 10 quintals of Aluminium Conductor, cutter, hammer, etc. were found from the trolley of the pickup van which was seized with the vehicle and 3 accused persons namely Jahid Hussain (20) of the back side of Rotary Public School Bargarh, Ranjit Dehury (27) of Kaindor, P.S. Redhakhol, Sambalpur district and Anta Bhoi (19) of village Balaikanta, P.S. Charmal, Sambalpur district were nabbed from the spot where whereas another accused Md. Kayum Khan (35) of Redhakhol, Sambalpur district who is the king pin of this managed to escape from the spot. Another co-accused Sanjeev Guru of village Khajuria under Bhatil P.S. was also arrested in this case.

During interrogation, the accused persons admitted to have committed theft of the seized articles of aluminium conductor from Bhatli fidder (weekly market yard) and were proceeding towards Bargarh town to sell it in the aluminium factory of Bargarh town. In this connetion one Sunil Kumar Agrawal (the owner of aluminium factory, Bargarh) has been detained for interrogation. It was ascertained that the absconding accused Kayum Khan is involved in many cases of Sambalpur district. This is under investigation.
