Drunk man kills daughter

A drunk man murdered his teenage daughter in the town’s Barpali area on Thursday night.

The accused, Ram Narayan Mirdha (48), struck his daughter, Kalpana’s head with a wooden plank over sudden provocation. She was taken to VSS Medical College and Hospital in the night but died in the hospital during treatment.

Ram Narayan is on the run since the incident, said IIC of Ainthapalli police station P K Patnaik. The body was sent for autopsy on Friday morning.

Earlier on Thursday, Ram Narayan had celebrated Nuakhai with wife Raj Kumari and Kalpana. The problem started after he went out in the evening and returned home drunk. This resulted in an argument between the father and daughter and he attacked her.

Upgrade of two roads under ADB loan

 The Government has decided to upgrade two of the State’s key roads under second loan component of the Asian Development Bank project.

The upgrade of Chankahri-Maro-Sambalpur-Navagand-Chirha-Umaria and Raipur-Urla-Patharideeh-Berla-Kodwa roads will involve `178.17 crore and necessary orders have been passed by the PWD through Mantralaya, according to an official statement. The length of Chankahri-Maro-Sambalpur-Navagand-Chirha-Umaria is 68 km and a sum of `89.64 crore had been approved for raising of the level and reconstruction of the road. Similarly, the length of Raipur-Urla-Patharideeh-Berla-Kodwa is 48 km and `88.53 crore has been approved.

Delhi schools register facile wins in Subroto Cup

Delhi schools had a field day in the under-17 boy’s section of the 53rd Subroto Cup football tournament with Modern School, Barakhamba and Bal Bharti Air Force School, registering facile wins in the group stage on Saturday.

Air Force School hammered Saini Senior Secondary School, Rewari, Haryana 8-0 thanks to hat-tricks from Tilak (9, 12, 37) and Dilli Ram (14, 18, 21), while Modern School battered PP Savini High School, Gujarat 7-1 to stay in hunt for a quarterfinal berth.

There was no single staggering goal scoring performance but Jai Minocha and Sarthak Kumar chipped in with two goals each, while Aaditya, Dhruv Pargai and Omain Warsi contributed one each.

The Under-15 Dynamo Kiev team from Ukraine in their first outing at the Subroto Cup beat Amwi Jarain Secondary School, Jowai, Meghalaya 5-0. The Kiev boys playing for the first time in India displayed class and played precision football to register the first win in the tournament.

Sambalpur in Administrator’s Challenge Cup

The Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, is organising 10th Administrator’s Challenge Cup All India Football Tournament (U-17 Boys) that would be held from October 15 to October 23 at Chandigarh Football Academy Ground, Sports Complex, Sector 42, Chandigarh and Football Stadium, Sector 17, Chandigarh. Teams from all over India will be participating in the tournament.

As many as fifteen teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
