Mohun Bagan and Sambalpur confirmed their semi-final

Mohun Bagan and Sambalpur Football Academy confirmed their semi-final berths in the ONGC Himachal Pradesh Youth Football Festival with both registering comfortable wins on Friday here at the Chaugan ground at Nahan.

Mohun Bagan thrashed SAI Football Academy, Kangra by 13-0 while Sambalpur FA run riot DPS Solan, defeating them 3-0. For Mohun Bagan Satyajit Roy bagged a hat-trick as he pumped in 4 goals, three of them coming in a span of 10 minutes.

Deepankar scored another four goals Friday to take his overall tally to 8 while Ferozuddin Mollah took his tally to 6 by scoring 3 goals. Sanchayan and Mahadev also got their name on the score sheet.

The Odisha side were given a tough fight by DPS Solan, Sukhlal Basra opened their account in the 9th minute before Kamaljit doubled it in the 25th minute. Change of end saw Sukhlal adding one more to take his overall tally to four goals in the tournament.

On Thursday, Prayag United SC also started their campaign on a thumping note trouncing Dynamic Soccer Academy, Jhanda Sahib 6-0. Vivek Paul and Subroto Mall scored a brace in the first half and the second half respectively while Surjit Barman and Sandeep scored one each in each half.

However, Pune FC had a disappointing start as they succumbed to 0-5 defeat against Mahalpur Football Academy, Punjab under floodlights.

Sanjay made 1-0 just at the stroke of half-time. But after the lemon break, the Punjab team came all out attacking with Gurpreet scoring the second goal in the 34th minute before Sanjay got his 2nd goal.

In the dying minutes, Jitender scored a brace to make the scoreline an embarrassing 5-0 against Pune FC.

On Saturday, Calicut FA will meet SAI Kangra in the first round while Yamuna Nagar FA and DPS Solan will face off post lunch. In the evening, Pune FC will play DFA Solan as the floodlight match has been reserved for the host DFA Sirmour and Dynamic Soccer Academy.

5 hardcore criminals nabbed, special team to help curb crimes

 The police on Monday arrested five hardcore criminals involved in different crimes including the recent one at Sarlakani Dhaba where they opened fire on innocent customers.

The arrested persons were identified as Rupesh Kusum, Ashis Aind, Amit Sandha, Siba Bag and Buti Suna.

The police also seized one mouser, two bikes, three mobile phones and live ammunition from their possession, Sambalpur SP Nikhil Kumar Kanodia told the media.

Rupesh Kusum, Ashis Aind and Amit Sandha were involved in the August 21 firing at Sarlakani of Sambalpur under the Dhanupali police station on silly matters. Since then, the police were chasing them as they are instrumental in different other criminal occurrences in the town.

“Rupesh is a resident of Bohidarbandh of the town and is a hardcore criminal. Eight months back, he fled away from police custody while undergoing treatment in the Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital at Burla. He had been absconding since then,” said Kanodia while detailing out his criminal track records.

Similarly, in another breaktrough, the police arrested Siba Bag and his accomplice Buti Suna who looted a bike on September 2 from Ainthapali. While the police had  registered a case against them earlier, they arrested the duo on Tuesday.

As many as twenty cases and all of grievous nature are pending in the name of Siba Bag in different police stations of Sambalpur. Similarly, 10 cases are there in the name of Buti Suna in the Ainthapali and the Town police stations. The looted bike has also been seized from the duo, Kanodia informed.

DIG of Police (northern range) Sanjay Kumar who was present in the media conference said that a special team will be formed in Sambalpur to curb crimes. “The team will be headed by a senior inspector and its prime job will be to keep vigil on crimes and track the criminals in the town and the district as well,” Kumar informed.
