Odisha’s 15 police personnel awarded President’s police medals

15 police personnel from the state have been awarded police medals on the occasion of the Independence Day this year.  From President’s Police Medals for Gallantry have been awarded to Pradeep Kapur, Additional Director General Of Police , HRPC, Cuttack.

Police Medals for Meritorious Service have been awarded to 12 Odisha Poilce personnel. They are namely  1. Shri  Gagan Bihari Kar, Deputy Superintendent Of Police, Bhandrak,   2. Shri  Pravat Chandra Routray, S.D.P.O, O/O S.D.P.O Ghatgaon, Keonjhar, 3 Shri  Bijaya Prakash Baboo, Assistant Commandant, Ir Bn Koraput, 4. Shri  Lochan Pasayat, Assistant Commandant, SOG, BBSR, 5. Shri  Rabindra Nath Satapathy, Inspector Of Police, Chandrasekharpur PS, BBSR UPD, 6. Shri  Nityananda Jena, Inspector, Spl. Branch HDQRS. BBSR, 7. Shri  Bibhuti Bhushan Rout, Inspector Of Police Vigilance, O/O SP Vigilance, Cuttack Division, Cuttack, 8. Shri  k. Benugopal Acharya, Inspector Of Police Vigilance, O/O SP Vigilance, Cuttack Division, Cuttack,  9. Shri  Subhash Chandra Bhatta, Sub Inspector Of Police, Pahal OP, Balianta PS BBSR UPD, 10. Shri  Kapileswar Das, Assistant Sub Inspector Of Police Vigilance, Vigilance, Directorate, Buxibazar, Cuttack , 11. Shri  Satrughan Behera, Havildar, Jagatsinghpur, 12. Shri  Rajendra Kumar Swain, Driver Havildar, Vigilance Sambalpur Division, Sambalpur.

President’s Correctional Service Medal for Distinguished Service awarded to Shri Sitanshu Kumar Deb, Jailor, Baripada circle Jail and Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service to Shri Tapan Kumar Mohanty, Warder, Baripada Circle Jail.

Several other Odia who are working under central government also selected to get this prestigious medal. They are namely Shri  Sankarsan Rout, Junior Intellignece Officer, Grade-I/G, Bhubaneswar, Ministry of Home Affairs got president’s police medal for distinguished service Independence day-2012, Khiroda Kumar  Lenka got, Head Constable, CRPF got Police Medal For Gallantry and others.

It should be noted that President’s Police Medals for Gallantry have been awarded to 13 personnel, Police Medals for Gallantry to 113 personnel, President’s Police Medals for Distinguished service to 84 personnel and Police Medals for Meritorious Service have been awarded to 682 personnel.

28 personnel on the occasion of Independence Day, 2012 have also been awarded including  President’s Correctional Service Medals for Distinguished Service to  Three  personnel and Correctional Service Medals for Meritorious Service to  25  personnel.

Maoists kill homeguard jawan in Bargarh

Maoists gunned down a home guard in front of his house in Majhipali village within Paikmal police limits on Monday night. Police have sent the body of 42-year-old Narayan Suna for post-mortem. Suna was from Bhuliaband area in Paikmal.

Police said the rebels assaulted the body in order to create terror and left several leaflets and posters at the site. DIG (NR) Sanjay Kumar and SP (Bargarh) Anup Krishna rushed to the spot on Tuesday to take stock of the situation.

Suna’s wife Lakhsmi said her husband was dragged from their home by a group of armed Maoists on Monday night. The group comprised around 25 rebels, including female cadres.

“They first shot him from a close range with a country-made pistol. Then they stabbed him with various sharp weapons and bayonets,” the DIG said on Tuesday. According to him, the Red rebels were taken aback by increased security operations in the area and killed the home guard in order to terrorize local people.

“The situation is under control now and there is nothing to be panic,” Kumar said. He also informed that the body was handed over to the family after giving it guard of honour in the afternoon. As per government guidelines, the deceased’s family will get Rs 8 lakh from the chief minister’s relief funds and Rs 5 lakh as insurance amount.

Union Bank targets Rs 10,000 cr business in Odisha this fiscal

Regional Head of the Union Bank Sachindra Kishore Agarwal today said that the bank having transaction worth Rs 8700 crore including deposits and advance in the State, has a business target of Rs 10,000 crore in the current fiscal.

Speaking on the occasion of the shifting of bank’s main branch from Janpath area to Ashok Nagar in the city here, he said, “To provide better banking service in the state, a new regional office would be set up in Sambalpur shortly this year. We have a massive expansion plan for this year both in banks and ATM services”. Out of a total of 81 branches and 75 ATMs in the State, the bank has 11 branches and 20 ATMs in the capital city.

Inaugurating the bank’s newly office building Managing Director of the Odisha State Civil Supply Corporation Suresh Kumar Vashishth wished all success of the bank.
Among others, Assistant General Manager V P Usheria and Chief Manager Krupasindhu Nayak were present on the occasion.
