100 acres land, Rs 5 crore for Sainik School at Sambalpur

The Odisha government has decided to expedite the process for setting up another Sainik School in the state at Sambalpur. In order to expedite the project, school and mass education minster Pratap Jena reviewed the progress with the officials of Sainik School here today.

Around 100 acres of land has been demarcated for setting up the school at Sambalpur. The school and mass education department has also made a budgetary provision of Rs 5 crore which will be spend initially, Jena said, adding that a decision to set up the school at Sambalpur was proposed in 2011.

He said that like Bhubaneswar Sainik School, all facilities will be installed in the school.Informing that the Bhubaneswar-based Sainik School is placed seventh among the 24 Sainik schools in the country, the Minister hoped that the proposed school at Sambalpur will be number one school in next two years. With this, the State will have two Sainik schools.

Sainik School Bhubaneswar was set up in February, 1962. It temporarily functioned from Blind School, Bhubaneswar and was finally shifted to the present sprawling campus in August, 1963. During the last 50 years, the school has churned out over 600 officers for Indian defence forces.
