Odia shooter hits bull’s eye

Shriyanka SadangiA 17-year-old Odia girl has bagged the silver medal in the 12th Asian Shooting Championship being held at Doha, Qatar. Shriyanka Sadangi won the medal in 10-m air rifle in women’s junior team and also secured the fifth rank in the final competition. With this she becomes the first Odia girl to do so. In October 2011, Shriyanka won gold in the 10-m rifle team event in the Asian airgun championship held in Kuwait.

She is the trainees of the Gun of Glory institute at Pune by the sponsorship of ONGC. Earlier in the national shooting championship at Pune, she edged out international reputed shooter Anjali Bhagbat.
In the final points she scored 397, while Bhagbat scored 395 points. She has also represented India in the 50th ISSF World Shooting Championship 2010 at Munich, Germany and various other international shooting championships.

Shriyanka SadangiThough Shriyanka belongs to Modipara in Sambalpur district, she stays in Delhi with her parents Col Sitanshu Sadangi and Sudha Sadangi. “It was a proud moment for us after she won the silver medal,” Sudha Sadangi, mother of Shriyanka said. “We provided her all the training after we saw her interest in shooting,” added Sudha. Talking to Times of India over phone from New Delhi, Sudha said Shriyanka was aiming for gold in the Olympics.
