Holi arrives early for BJD in Bijepur

Holi celebration began early for BJD in the district after the landslide victory of party candidate Ritarani Sahu in Bijepur by-poll on Wednesday. BJD supporters went on a celebration-mode smearing colored powder, locally called ‘Phagu’, on each other besides distributing sweets among them. They also danced to the tune of ‘dulduli’, a traditional music of western Odisha amid fireworks.

Similar celebration broke out in Barpali NAC and block, Bijepur and Gaisilet blocks, Padampur and other areas of the district. BJD candidate Sahu along with Rajya Sabha Member Prasanna Acharya, Handlooms and Textiles Minister Snehangini Chhuria, Bargarh MP Prabhas Singh and MLA Debesh Acharya congregated in front of Anchal College at Padampur, where counting of votes was held, to celebrate the victory with BJD workers.

Thanking the voters and BJD workers, Sahu and Acharya said this win of BJD was against ‘goonda raj’ and false campaign. The by-poll result is the answer of people against bullet through ballot, Acharya said. The win was also a victory of ‘Vikash’ (development) and the result will determine the course and future of Odisha politics, he said.

An elated Sahu said she won the by-election due to the clean image of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and popularity of her late husband Subal Sahu. Thanking the voters of Bijepur Assembly segment for their support, Sahu said development work will continue in the area.On the other hand, while BJD celebrated the victory in different parts of the district, party workers of Chichinda village were grief-stricken.

On February 24, Dileswar Sahu of Chichinda died at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after being attacked during pre-poll violence.Dileswar was with Subrat Singh, the brother of Labour Minister Susant Singh, when miscreants attacked them at Banabira within Sohela police limits.

ECI appointed new SP and Collector in Bargarh

The Election Commission of India has decided to appoint new SP and Collector in Bargarh district. This is happened for the coming by-poll election of  Bijepur Assembly constituency which is scheduled for February 24th.

The ECI has asked the state government to recommend the names of three IAS officers and three IPS officers belonging to the Odisha cadre who have experience in conducting elections.
From the suggested names, one IAS officer will be selected for the post of Collector and an IPS officer will be appointed as SP of the district, official sources said Wednesday.

The Home Department has already recommended the names of three IPS officers of the Odisha cadre for appointment as SP of the district. The IPS officers, whose names were recommended are – Jai Narayan Pankaj, K. Siva Subramani and Pinak Mishra. The General Administration Department has also sent the list of IAS officers for the post of Collector, the source said.

The new SP will replace the current SP, IPS officer Jugal Kishor Kumar Banoth. The new Collector will replace IAS officer Khagendra Kumar Padhi.
A seven-member BJP delegation led by state in-charge Arun Singh had filed a complaint with the ECI against Bargarh Collector and Superintendent of Police in November 2017, demanding transfer of the duo. The BJP had alleged that a free and fair by-poll cannot be held in Bijepur if the officials are not transferred.

Rita Sahu wife of late Congress sitting MLA Subal Sahu will file her nomination on 5h Februry as a BJD Candidate. As she is the appropriate candidate for the most awaited Bjijepur bypoll election in Bargarh District.

The party declared this after BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik chaired a high-level meeting at Naveen Niwas to prepare party’s strategies ahead of the bypoll.

Senior party leaders including Prasanna Acharya, Debi Prasad Mishra, Prasanta Nanda, Pranab Prakash Das, party observer for Bargarh district Prafulla Mallick and canditate Rita Sahu attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, some Sarpanchs and Panchayat Samiti members along with 50 congress and BJP workers from Gaisilat Block of the district joined the BJD today.

Speaking to media persons, Naveen said “I am very happy that the Sarpanchs and Panchayat Samiti members along with 50 leaders from Congress party belonging to Bijepur Assembly Constituency have joined BJD. Their joining will strengthen our party. I welcome them”.

The Bijepur by-poll will be held on February 24. The by-poll was necessitated following the death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu on August 22, 2017.
