Suspected Black Fungus Death At VIMSAR

A patient with symptoms of black fungus passes away at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla on Sunday night.

VIMSAR superintendent Lal Mohan Nayak informed that one among seven patients with symptoms of black fungus passed away last night. He was in the ICU.

Three among the remaining six have diagnosed positive for Mucormycosis (Black Fungus), while the rest three are still to be diagnosed, he added.

Additional Chief Secretary, PK Mohapatra, had yesterday informed that there have been 25 confirmed cases of Black Fungus in Odisha to date. Out of them, 3 have died over the past few days due to other reasons.

Odisha Government had on May 20 decided to include Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) as a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act -1897. Mucormycosis is primarily affecting people recovering from Covid-19.
