Western Odisha Farmers Ulgulan Revolt Rally Against Farm Laws Concludes

Farmers from Western Odisha who had launched Ulgulan Revolt Rally from Sambalpur on February 28 to protest ‘anti-farmer’ bills of the Centre reached Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

As per reports, more than 250 farmers from several western Odisha districts under the banner of Paschim Odisha Krushak Sangathan Samanway Samiti (POKSSS) reached Bhubaneswar on Tuesday and took out a bike rally at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar showing solidarity with the protesting farmers at Delhi border.

Some of their major demands included, rollback of farm laws by the Centre and making MSP for agro products a law.

Speaking to the media, a farmer leader, Lingaraj said, “The purpose of this Ulgulan Rally is to put pressure on the government to take back the farm laws.”

On February 28, the death anniversary of Veer Surendra Sai, the day Odisha observes as the ValidanDiwas, hundreds of farmers congregated at Sambalpur and set out on Ulgulan Revolt Rally towards Bhubaneswar after paying tributes to the martyr.

Great tribal leader, Birsa Munda led the Ulgulan movement in the western Odisha region including Jharkhand in 1899-1900. Aimed at establishing Munda Raj or Munda rule in this region, this revolt came to be known as The Ulgulan or “the Great Tumult”.
