Heavy rain & wind killed farmers indirectly

A farmer of Bahmnipali village under Bhatli block of the district allegedly committed suicide over crop failure. According to reports, the farmer, Lekru Bhoi (58), had suffered loss in the last two crop seasons due to lack of adequate rain.

This month, pests damaged his crops after heavy rain and wind. He owned eight acres of land and had availed loan of `6 lakh from Andhra bank and about Rs 80,000 from a co-operative society and private money lenders. With the crops being damaged, he was under mental stress over repayment of the loans.

Sources said he left his home on Thursday evening and did not return till late night. Next day, his body was found hanging from a tree.
