‘Sala Budha’ is nominated for FIJI International Film Festival, 2014

sala-budhaDirector Sabyasachi Mohapatra’s tale of an old man’s wit, Sala Budha is nominated for the competition category of FIJI International Film Festival. The movie participate in the competition with the movies of 11 different countries. The FIJI International Film Festival to be held in GOA by the coming month of June.

‘Sala Budha’ is a movie made in Sambalpuri language. It is an attempt to show the plight of aged people in the western part of Odisha.

This movie is made in black and white and the director says that he has enough reasons for doing so. This, being a periodical movie, a black and white adaptation can give it the required justice.

 

“Though the film had been screened at various cities and both the critics and the viewers applauded it, I was a little apprehensive over the jury’s take on my experiments. First, the story, penned by my father Kapileswar Prasad Mohapatra, is 100 years old, and second, it’s a black and white film with an 83-year-old protagonist,” said Mohapatra.

The story of ‘Sala Budha’ or ‘The stupid Old man’ revolves around an old village head, the Sarpanch of a village, who tries his best to take care of the subjects at any cost. The film has successfully depicted the strong relationship of the earlier days in the villages of western Odisha and the innocence, simplicity and righteousness of the Old man, who finally gets his reward from the King.

Octogenarian Atala Panda plays the protagonist. Mohapatra’s brothers, son and some other family members, who are in the film industry, pitched in with their individual expertise in making of the film.
